Post Black Obama

Felandus Thames, artist

“I wanted to explore the notion that President Obama is redefining the idea of the ‘Black Male’ and antiquated notions of Blackness. I felt that the iron oxide would be the perfect medium for this poetic interlude for the patina.”

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Felandus Thames became a conceptual artist after receiving his MFA in Painting and Printmaking at Yale University School of Art.

Thames was recently a Louis Comfort Tiffany Prize Nominee and exhibited at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Ball. He has been featured in numerous periodicals including the New York Times, International Review of African American Art and Art in America.

Thames’ work can be found in myriad private and public collections both in the United States and abroad.
