Personification

African American artist Barbara Jane Bullock's painted bust for the Visions of Our 44th President Exhibit, entitled, "Starry Personification."

“My belief that art can imitate and enhance life is energized by this wonderful project. The elements and colors I have chosen to adorn the bust of President Obama are metaphors for belief, strength and resilience, visually representing attributes he personifies.”

The stories in Barbara Jane Bullock’s paintings take their material from the history and continuing experience of the African Diaspora. It has been said that the images in Bullock’s art are fabulous inventions of life forms and figures, set in a vibrant relationship to richly patterned backgrounds.

Bullock’s work is included in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia International Airport, Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.
