Fulfillment of a Dream

Tamara Natalie Madden, artist

“I chose to create an Obama piece that was all-encompassing. It features the all-American images of the White House and the bald eagle, but it also features images of the African Americans who helped build this country. The word DREAM was placed on the piece because Obama’s election was a fulfillment of Martin Luther King, Jr’s dream, and the dreams of many blacks. I also added quilting as homage to all of the ancestors in America.”

Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, Tamara Natalie
Madden’s work has been featured in publications including the New York Times International, Jamaican Gleaner and Upscale Magazine. Recipient of a Puffin Foundation Grant for her project Never Forgotten, which focused on combating poverty worldwide, Tamara was included in NBC’s The Grio Top 40 Artists to Watch in 2014.
